Alternative Breaks - Discount Application
These need-based discounts are intended to assist in creating access for those who want the opportunity to participate in Alternative Breaks, but need financial assistance in order to do so. Please note that AB discounts often range from $50-$300, and while we do our best to assist students in affording the costs of the AB experience, we have limited funding.
Because our resources are limited and we aim to ensure support is given where it is most impactful, we ask that any participant completing the application do so with integrity—with authenticity to their self and their experiences—and with respect for the other students applying for discounts. That said, we are dedicated to providing accessible and equitable experiences and encourage all students who need financial aid to complete our discount application. Applicants are encouraged to take their time to provide honest responses to each of the questions below.
Please note that AB Discounts are not scholarship awards. Receiving a discount will entail a reduction in the cost of your AB experience, and at no time will funds be transferred to your personal accounts or your student tuition accounts. For this reason, AB Discounts are available to all AB students regardless of academic standing, citizenship status/graduation from a Utah high school, or any other factor. Additionally, receiving an AB Discount will not impact a student’s scholarship or financial aid status.
This application is for students that have been offered a spot on an Alternative Breaks experience during the Fall 2021 semester. Students must apply for an AB Discount by 11:59pm on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021. You will be notified of your discount status by Wednesday, Sep. 1, 2021—before the down payment for your break is due on Sunday, Sep. 5, 2021.

Please note that all applications for AB discounts will be reviewed anonymously—names, uNIDs, and contact information will not be shared with the review committee. The Alternative Breaks Program Manager alone will see and use this information after discount allocations have been made in order to create and award discounts.
