Saturday Service Project

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at this upcoming event!


  • Check-In will take place at 8:45 AM. 
  • The Bennion Center takes the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and will continue to require face coverings and a pre-health assessment at each of these events.
  • Please note that many of the in-person projects will be taking place outside, so volunteers should plan to layer clothing, wear sun protection, and bring water.
  • Snacks will provided at each in-person location.
  • These offerings are broken down by location of project which include on-campus, off-campus, or virtual.
  • Please only sign up if you are planning to attend as spots are limited and our community partners rely on volunteers to help meet their needs.

Edible Campus Gardens

Location: Campus Gardens, East of Pioneer Theater Company

Volunteer Spots: 20

Description: Help prepare the Edible Campus Gardens for the growing season.  Volunteers will prepare garden beds for planting which will include prepping garden beds, pulling weeds, and planting. No gardening experience is needed.

Additional: Volunteers who register for this project should wear closed toed shoes, wear layers for changes in weather, bring water, wear sun protection, and expect to become dirty due to the nature of the project.

Age limit: Must be 12 years of age to participate.

 


Feed U Food Pantry

Location: Union Basement - 200 S. Central Campus Drive

Volunteer Spots: 20

Description: Volunteers will be cleaning and organizing the pantry, decorating brown bags for take home kits, reviewing expiration dates, and stocking inventory.

Additional: Please wear clothing that can become dusty or dirty.  

Age limit: Must be 18 years of age to participate.

 


Seed Bombs

Location: Kahlert Village, Room 1010

Volunteer Spots: 15

Description: Volunteers will put together “seed bombs” that can be distributed to local environmental agencies to plant as appropriate.

Additional: Please wear clothing that is ok to get dirty.

Age limit: Must be at least 12 years of age to participate.

 


Spring Hive Repair and Inspection

Location: Marriott Library, West Entrance

Volunteer Spots: 10

Description: Join the University of Utah’s Bee Keep Society in securing new frames to replace old, weathered frames in all of our hives in the Marriott Library. Volunteers then will conduct a hive inspection at our Kahlert Village hives to make sure the bees are ready for spring. Protective gear will be provided, and we’ll talk about the science and art of beekeeping throughout the morning.

Additional: Please wear light colored long pants (working with hives). A long sleeve coat will be provided to wear. Please also wear protective sun gear and bring a water bottle.

Age limit: Must be 16 years of age to participate.

Fife Wetlands Restoration

Location: 952 South 1100 W

Volunteer Spots: 25

Description: Celebrate the return of spring, by showing Mother Nature some love. Join Trails and Natural Lands in "Spring Cleaning" at Fife Wetlands. This work will prevent harmful runoff into the Jordan River and to prepare the land for future restoration projects! We'll be weeding, mulching, picking up litter and debris.

Additional: Wear clothing that may become damaged or dirty. Volunteers should wear appropriate layers and sun protection as well as bringing water. Closed toed shoes are required.

Age limit: Must be 18 years of age to participate.


Green Urban Lunchbox

Location: Highland Drive and 3300 South (Exact location will be sent to registrants ahead of time)

Volunteer Spots: 15

Description: Back-Farms builds and maintains gardens for senior citizens with the help of volunteers. Food harvested from the gardens is split between the senior, the volunteers, and the rest is given out for free at Salt Lake County Senior Centers. This project will consist of expanding the size of one of our existing gardens and preparing it for spring planting. We will be removing grass and weeds, adding compost, and working with the soil.

Additional: Wear clothing that may become damaged or dirty. Volunteers should wear appropriate layers and sun protection as well as bringing water. Closed toed shoes are required.

Age limit: Must be 18 years of age to participate.

 


Social Justice Gardens at Glendale CLC

Location: 1388 S. Navajo Street

Volunteer Spots: 15

Description: Volunteers will be helping with weeding, and general garden clean-up projects to help prepare the garden for spring planting.

Additional: Wear clothing that may become damaged or dirty. Volunteers should wear appropriate layers and sun protection as well as bringing water. Closed toed shoes are required.

Age limit: Must be 18 years of age to participate.

 


Tree Utah

Location: Sugar House Park (Location may change, but registrants will be informed)

Volunteer Spots: 40

Description: Volunteers will assist in preparing grounds and planting trees

Additional: Wear clothing that may become damaged or dirty. Volunteers should wear appropriate layers and sun protection as well as bringing water. Closed toed shoes are required.

Age limit: No Age Restrictions, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Virtual Environment Tracking Project

Location: Online via Zoom. Virtually from your own home or preferred location.

Volunteer Spots: 25

Description: Volunteers will remotely participate in a virtual environmental tracking project. Training will be provided.

Additional: Must have own electronic device and access to internet to participate.

Age limit: Must be 13 years of age or older.
