Meet Stephany: Legacy of Lowell Opened
Path to Leadership

Hi! My name is Stephany Cortez, and I am a junior here at the University of Utah. This academic school year I will be managing social media posts about our fantastic student directed programs and opportunities available through the Bennion Center. If you would like to be more involved in the University and in your community definitely drop by and we are more than willing to help you out.

I am a first generation college student and currently I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science with an emphasis in law and politics, as well as a double minor in Spanish and theater (so that should cover my BA). Growing up in Salt Lake City, and wanting to be close to my family and friends I without hesitation decided to attend the University of Utah not to mention that it was one of the most diverse college campus and there are just so many ways you can get involved at the U, leadership roles to take, make new friends and build up your resume.

Currently I am involved in several boards at the University such as ASUU, Bennion Center (of course), Beacon Scholars and Lorde Scholars and HerCampus. I am also the founder and co-chair of the Students of Success at the University of Utah where we have initiated the program called No Limitations that is a resource to high school students in pursuing higher education and assisting with college applications and scholarships and giving a glimpse of what college is by organizing student panels and field trips to the University.

I first found out about the Bennion Center during an orientation when I was a freshman and member of First Year Council a sub program of ASUU. After meeting Bryce, BobbiJo and Tammy I was so intrigued I ended up going to my first alternative break. Then I got involved helping out during Legacy of Lowell. I decided I wanted to have more responsibility and wanted to let others know all the good Bennion does. I became a student program director and now I get the opportunity to post and appreciate the students, staff, Bennion center community that has become like a second family to me.

I am stoked to work with Bennion again and excited to highlight all the awesome student leaders, projects and opportunities we have this school year!

Volunteer with Stephany at Legacy of Lowell, Sept. 22!
